TMS is off to a great start
Tonasket Middle School is off to a fantastic start. This year, the staff has embarked on some amazing Professional Development opportunities, focused on improving the overall culture and discipline of the Middle School. We are continuing in our endeavors as a Leader In Me school, as well as connecting Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS). The focus of PBIS is to work on celebrating positive student behaviors. In addition, we have worked with students to create schoolwide behavior expectations. Within the first two months of school we have seen a significant increase in student behavior.
Other great things happening in our school this year is the addition of a daily media broadcast, providing students with current event information, weather, teacher profiles, and sports updates. Nathan White our Digital Media teacher has been working hard to make this a success, and the students are doing an amazing job of researching weather, filming sporting events, conducting interviews, and editing recorded information. In addition to Digital Media we have teams preparing for competitions in Robotics, Science Olympiad, Spelling Bee, and Math Olympiad in the Spring.
Our 7th Grade team has wrapped up an amazing community service event. The 7th grade team took on a project partnered with the United States Armed Forces Legacy Project. This project has included a loose change drive, with the goal of raising $1000 that was presented at our Veterans’ Day Assembly. The students also took a number of field trips down to the park to visit the museum as well as help wash all the plaques at the park. Lastly, students also participated in window decorations honoring community Veterans in downtown Tonasket.
